HLA class II histocompatibility antigen, DR α chain is a 33 kDa transmembrane protein that can be found in the trans-Golgi network membrane, late endosome membrane and MHC class II protein complex of cells. In Homo sapiens, HLA class II histocompatibility antigen, DR α chain binds with peptide antigen, polysaccharide and MHC class II protein complex. It aids in organismal processes, namely, peptide antigen assembly with MHC class II protein complex, cognition and immune response. It has been closely linked to important functions like MHC class II receptor activity. Additionally, it is the subject of extensive examination due to the fact that it plays a role in the T cell receptor signaling pathway and interferon-γ-mediated signaling pathway. Sequencing of HLA class II histocompatibility antigen, DR α chain has supported it contains 3 conserved structural units: cytoplasmic, Ig-like C1-type and extracellular domain.
