Gag polyprotein is a protein with a molecular weight of 65 kDa, expressed in the cytoplasm, viral nucleocapsid and host multivesicular body of cells. In hiv-1s, gag polyprotein has been found to be involved in organismal processes, namely, viral budding via host ESCRT complex, RNA-dependent DNA biosynthetic process and nuclear transport. Gag polyprotein binds to RNA, zinc ion and N-myristoyl glycine. It has been associated with vital functions like structural molecule activity.
