About
Purified Mouse Anti-human/mouse/pig Vimentin Antibody
VI-10, monoclonal
Vimentin is a 54 kDa protein that can be found in the cytosol, extracellular exosome and cytoskeleton of cells. In Homo sapiens, vimentin binds to double-stranded RNA and identical protein. It is the subject of intensive research in part because it is a member of the cytokine-mediated signaling pathway. Vimentin is thought to be essential to organismal processes, for example, cellular response to interferon-γ, SMAD protein signal transduction and astrocyte development. Sequencing of vimentin has supported it contains a primary structural unit, the IF rod domain. Vimentin is thought to be essential to mRNA stability. It is an inhibitor of neuron projection development but also is a promoter of translation and collagen biosynthetic process. Vimentin is clinically significant because abnormalities in its function have been thought to be involved with diseases like Cataract 30, multiple types (CTRCT30).
