Mismatch repair endonuclease PMS2 (alternatively called DNA mismatch repair protein PMS2 or PMS1 protein homolog 2) is a protein with a molecular weight of 96 kDa, expressed in the cytosol, mutLalpha complex and cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotein granule of cells. In Homo sapiens, mismatch repair endonuclease PMS2 is involved with important functions such as endonuclease and ATPase activity. Mismatch repair endonuclease PMS2 is essential to organismal processes, namely, mismatch repair, somatic hypermutation of immunoglobulin genes and response to drug. It binds with ATP, single base insertion or deletion and DNA. Mismatch repair endonuclease PMS2 is clinically significant because abnormalities in its function have been associated with diseases such as mismatch repair cancer syndrome (MMRCS) and hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer 4 (HNPCC4). Mismatch repair cancer syndrome, an autosomal recessive inheritancedisorder characterized by medulloblastoma, ependymoma and lymphoma, has especially been of interest to investigators.
