Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a 305 kDa protein that can be found in the extracellular region of cells. In humans, Tg has been associated with vital functions such as hormone activity. It recognizes identical protein. Tg aids in myelination, and furthermore, plays an important role in organismal processes, for example, signal transduction, thyroid gland development and hormone biosynthetic process. Sequencing of Tg has shown it contains 11 types of conserved structural units: Thyroglobulin type-1 1, Thyroglobulin type-1 2, Thyroglobulin type-1 3, Thyroglobulin type-1 4, Thyroglobulin type-1 5, Thyroglobulin type-1 6, Thyroglobulin type-1 7, Thyroglobulin type-1 8, Thyroglobulin type-1 9, Thyroglobulin type-1 10 and Thyroglobulin type-1 11 domain. Mutations and abnormalities in Tg have been thought to be involved with a number of diseases, namely, thyroid dyshormonogenesis 3 (TDH3) and autoimmune thyroid disease type 3 (AITD3). Thyroid dyshormonogenesis 3, an autosomal recessive inheritancedisorder characterized by Intellectual disability, goiter and Increased T3/T4 ratio, has especially been of interest to scientists.
