Not all cytokines cause pain. There are two types of cytokines – pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Only certain pro-inflammatory cytokines cause pain.
IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α are three of the most notable algesic pro-inflammatory cytokines that cause pain.
