Does ADP release energy?

Posted August 3, 2021

Answer

Yes, ADP releases energy during hydrolysis. When ADP (adenosine diphosphate) is hydrolyzed, the addition of water weakens and breaks a phosphoanhydride bond. This removes a phosphate group from ADP and releases energy in the process and also converting ADP to AMP (adenosine monophosphate). The process is reversible.
