How do I calculate protein concentration using the Bradford assay?

Posted December 2, 2020

Answer

The Bradford protein assay is a colorimetric assay that uses the dye Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250 to determine the total protein concentration in a sample. Under acidic conditions, the binding of proteins to Coomassie Blue will result in the solution changing colors from brown to blue. If there is no protein in the sample, the solution will remain brown. The absorbance of the solution is then measured at 595 nm using a spectrophotometer, and is directly proportional to the concentration of protein present in the sample.
