How does the Golgi apparatus participate in lipid transport?

Posted April 2, 2021

Answer

In lipid transport, the Golgi apparatus plays an important role in the biogenesis and processing of lipoproteins. These lipoproteins, which transport hydrophobic lipid molecules, are then packaged into vesicles by the trans Golgi network (TRN). Transport vesicles are either sent to another area within the cell, such as plasma membranes for repair, or transported to the cell surface for secretion.

Golgi-associated maturation of very low density lipoproteins involves conformational changes in apolipoprotein B, but is not dependent on apolipoprotein E
