Is peptidoglycan present in fungi cell walls?

Posted September 14, 2021

Answer

No, peptidoglycan is not present in fungi cell walls. Peptidoglycan is present only in bacterial cell walls. Fungi cell walls are made of a protein known as Chitin with added layers of Manno-proteins and beta-glucan.  The chitin content of the fungi cell wall varies considerably depending on the morphological phase of the fungus.
