What does silver stain stain?

Posted August 16, 2021

Answer

Silver stain stains intracellular and extracellular components such as proteins and DNA. When added to the gel, silver binds to chemical sidechains of the amino acids aiding in their detection. The stain is highly sensitive and produces an image with reduced background and lower mass spectrometry interference.
