What is Gibson Assembly used for?

Posted October 14, 2020

Answer

Gibson Assembly is a cloning procedure used to clone molecules. This molecular cloning method allows for joining up to 15 DNA fragments based on sequence identity. Using this method, DNA fragments can be combined in a single, isothermal reaction without the need for restriction enzyme digestion.

The Gibson Assembly requires fewer steps and fewer reagents, making it faster and cheaper than other cloning techniques. It is named after its creator, Daniel G. Gibson.
