What is methylene blue used for?

Posted August 18, 2021

Answer

Methylene Blue is a versatile dye that acts as a biological stain, guanylyl cyclase (GCS) inhibitor, and redox indicator. It is widely used to inhibit processes facilitated by cGMP, a second messenger molecule that regulates numerous downstream effects. It is also used to inhibit the formation of tau filament and to inhibit nitric oxide synthase (NOSs).
