What is the essential difference between apoptosis and necrosis?

Posted May 18, 2020

Answer

Apoptosis and necrosis are two mechanisms involved in the cell death. The main difference between them is that apoptosis is a naturally occurring physiological process where the cell actively destroys itself in a highly regulated manner; whereas necrosis is an accidental cell death caused by the uncontrolled external factors, which is an unregulated, random pathological process.
