What is the function of RNA?

Posted October 29, 2020

Answer

RNA is important in that it has been implicated in the growth of proteins, as well as the degeneration of cells, and thus is an interesting and important area of study for human development. Essentially, RNA carries genetic code which can form various proteins, though this is just one of its functions. There are numerous different kinds of RNA, all of which serve different functions, all working toward the same purpose and in tandem. Different kinds of RNA include mRNA (messenger), rRNA (ribosomal), and tRNA (transfer). mRNA carries instructions from the nucleus to ribosomes in the cytoplasm, concerning specifically polypeptide synthesis as a component of protein synthesis. rRNA is a component of the various subunits of the ribosomes, while tRNA is an amino acid carrier between the ribosome and the coded mRNA information.
