What is the function of primers in DNA PCR process?

Posted September 25, 2020

Answer

Primers are short, single-stranded DNA sequences that are used in PCR as a starting point for DNA synthesis. During the annealing step, PCR primers hybridize to a specific location on the single-stranded DNA template via complementary base pairing. Once bound, DNA polymerases attach to each primer and begin incorporating nucleotides along the template strand in the 5’ to 3’ direction.
