Why do cells recovered from liquid nitrogen have lower viability?

Answer

There are several possible reasons for why cells recovered from liquid nitrogen have lower viability. One possible explanation is that the DMSO used to cryopreserve the cells was not completely removed from the medium. The other explanation could be that the recommended storage conditions for that cell type were not satisfied. It is also important to note that keeping cells at room temperature or on ice can significantly reduce cell viability.
