Answer
Despite similar structure and sequence, the roles of E-cadherin and N-cadherin are dissimilar. E-cadherin and N-Cadherin are expressed by different tissues; E-cadherin is typically expressed by epithelial cells, while N-cadherin is expressed by mesenchymal cells. During epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which leads to the formation of mesenchymal cells, E-cadherin is downregulated while N-cadherin is upregulated.
