How do germ cells function?

Answer
Germ cells are produced by meiosis and are haploid in nature. They contain half the number of chromosomes of somatic cells. On fertilization, a male and female germ cell (sperm and egg) unite to form a diploid zygote that contains the full number of chromosomes.
