What are the advantages of live cell imaging?

Posted April 10, 2024

Answer

Live cell imaging is a technique that uses time-lapse microscopy to visualize living cells and study their structure and function in vivo.

Advantages of live cell imaging:

  • This technique enables scientists to study and document cellular structures in their innate environment, which ensures that observations are as close as possible to the natural state of the cells and less prone to experimental artifacts.
  • Real-time monitoring of live cells indicates optimal time points for end-point assays by allowing scientists to visualize transient events that are more likely to be missed in end-point assays.
  • Live cell imaging also enables researchers to track the localization and transportation of cellular biomolecules simultaneously and in real time.
  • Acquiring axial, temporal, and lateral images makes it possible to create 4D images and data.
