What are the advantages of multiplexing techniques in real time PCR (qPCR)?

Posted May 12, 2023

Answer

Multiplexing techniques in real time PCR (qPCR) involve amplifying two or more target genes in the same reaction using the same reagent mix.

Advantages of multiplexing techniques in qPCR include:

  • More information with smaller amount of sample
  • More cost effective because it requires fewer enzymes, dNTPs, and other consumables
  • Less time required to set up experiments and analyze results
  • Higher throughput
  • Higher accuracy and fewer pipetting errors because of amplifying multiple genes in the same wells
