Multiplexing techniques in real time PCR (qPCR) involve amplifying two or more target genes in the same reaction using the same reagent mix.
Advantages of multiplexing techniques in qPCR include:
- More information with smaller amount of sample
- More cost effective because it requires fewer enzymes, dNTPs, and other consumables
- Less time required to set up experiments and analyze results
- Higher throughput
- Higher accuracy and fewer pipetting errors because of amplifying multiple genes in the same wells
