Carbocyanine dyes are a class of highly fluorescent dyes. They have a wide range of applications including but not limited to:
- Labeling plasma membranes
- Retrograde and anterograde labeling in fixed tissue
- Labeling and visualizing blood vessels
- Studying living neurons of identified origin in long-term cultures
- Simultaneous visualization of vasculature and surrounding tissue structures
- Mediating imaging and targeted drug delivery for human brain tumor
