Answer

Carbocyanine dyes are a class of highly fluorescent dyes. They have a wide range of applications including but not limited to: 

  • Labeling plasma membranes
  • Retrograde and anterograde labeling in fixed tissue
  • Labeling and visualizing blood vessels
  • Studying living neurons of identified origin in long-term cultures 
  • Simultaneous visualization of vasculature and surrounding tissue structures
  • Mediating imaging and targeted drug delivery for human brain tumor
