What are the applications of coumarin dyes?

Posted October 14, 2022

Answer

Coumarin dyes are used to provide contrast to multicolor applications (e.g. immuflouresence, nucleic acid and protein microarrays, neuronal tracing and in situ hybridization) between compounds. More specifically, coumarins dyes are used for polyesters and polyamides. Sulfonated derivatives are used in the dyeing of polyamides. There are also some cationic dyes used for the coloration of acrylic materials. However, it is recommended that coumarin dyes are used for only abundant targets, and for cell tracking uses. This is because their fluorescence may not be as bright as that of other dyes; it may be unclear due to autofluorescence.
