What are the applications of oxidase tests?

Oxidase tests are commonly used in these applications: 

• To differentiate between oxidase Pseudomadaceae and oxidase negative Enterobacteriaceae. 
• To differentiate Enterobacteriaceae from other Gram-negative bacilli. 
• To differentiate the oxidase positive cocci Neisseria spp. from the oxidase negative cocci Streptococcus spp. and Staphylococcus spp. 
• To screen colonies suspected of belong to the Enterobacteriaceae family, all of which are oxidase negative.
