What are the applications of super resolution microscopy?

Posted December 7, 2023

Answer

Its main application is to be used to visualize structures in viable cells that cannot be seen using confocal fluorescence or conventional widefield microscopy. Super resolution microscopy can be used in cell biology to study these cellular structures at high resolutions. This technique also allows one to visualize processes that occur within cells. In neurobiology, super-resolution microscopy is able to provide detailed images of synapses and neuronal structures. In immunology, super resolution microscopy is used to study immunological synapses, providing information on immune signaling processes. It is able to visualize these synapses at the nanoscale level.
