Polycythemia 

  • Is a condition in which red blood cells and hemoglobin increase beyond the normal ranges
  • Red blood cells as well as white blood cells and platelets may increase in number

Erythrocytosis 

  • Is a condition in which the red blood cell mass increases beyond the normal levels
  • Only red blood cells increase in number
