What hormone triggers erythropoiesis?

Posted April 17, 2024

Answer

Erythropoiesis is triggered by the hormone erythropoietin.

Erythropoietin is a hormone produced primarily by specialized cells known as interstitial cells, present in the kidney. On being generated, erythropoietin stimulates stem cells of the bone marrow, which increase production of red blood cells.
