What are the different types of macrophages?

Posted March 5, 2024

Answer

Macrophages can be categorized into two main types based on their mode of activation – M1 and M2. M1 or classically-activated macrophages are activated by pathogen invasion. M2 or alternatively-activated macrophages are activated as a result of exposure to IL-4 or IL-3 produced by CD4+ T cells
