What are the examples of long read sequencing?

Posted June 4, 2024

Answer

These are the two main examples of long-read sequencing technologies:

Oxford Nanopore sequencing: Oxford Nanopore sequencing involves passing single-stranded DNA fragments through a nanopore and measuring the resultant changes in ionic current. Each DNA sequence creates a unique level of resistance as it moves through the nanopore, enabling researchers to determine the exact nucleotide sequence

PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing: PacBio SMRT sequencing detects varying levels of fluorescence that are emitted when a target DNA sequence is replicated using modified nucleotides. This process takes place in a series of wells and is dependent on the quality of the DNA polymerase used.
