What are the limitations of luminometric cell viability assays?

Posted June 21, 2023

Answer

Luminometric assay is a simple and quick technique used to determine cell proliferation and cytotoxicity in mammalian cells.

A notable limitation of luminometric cell viability assays is that they are susceptible to technical errors such as pipetting errors, which can compromise the accuracy of the results.

Another limitation of luminometric cell viability assays is that the metabolic activity of the specific target cells determines the duration of the assay. In some cases, the test compound may be depleted before reaching the desired end point. To prevent this, the maximum incubation time must be optimized accurately for each cell type.
