What are the similarities between aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration?

Posted November 6, 2023

Answer

There are various similarities between aerobic and anaerobic respiration. One similarity is that both processes use glucose as their substrate. Both processes also release byproducts of carbon dioxide and release energy in the form of ATP. Another similarity is that they both occur within cells. Additionally, sugar molecules are broken down in both types of respiration in order to release energy. They both also take place in the cytoplasm of cells, and depend on enzymes to catalyze their reactions (e.g. lactate dehydrogenase).
