What are the similarities between RNA splicing and alternative splicing?

Posted October 22, 2022

Answer

RNA splicing and alternative splicing are two types of modifications that follow the transcription of eukaryotic genes. Both are important for the production of a functional protein. They share the following similarities:

  • Both splice exons by removing introns
  • They are both post-transcriptional modifications that occur during eukaryotic gene expression
  • Both occur inside the nucleus
  • Both produce a mRNA molecule
  • The effector molecule for both is the primary RNA strand
