There are various uses of fluorescence spectroscopy in science as well as medicine. In science, it can be used for studying structural changes in aromatic molecules, conjugated systems, and inflexible, planar compounds. It can also be used for studying dissolved organic matter in drinking water, to predict water quality. Additionally, it has been used for measuring stress levels and physiological states in plants. Interestingly, fluorescence spectroscopy has also been used for measuring antioxidant capacity and antioxidant substances in roasted coffee extract. In medicine, it is becoming a useful diagnostic tool for detecting pre-malignant and malignant lesions in the body. It is noninvasive and has already been successful in detecting cancers as it is  a highly sensitive and specific technique. Overall, fluorescence spectroscopy is highly versatile, making it ever more important.
