Answer
A lipid is a hydrocarbon-containing molecule. Fats, oils, cholesterol, hormones, and vitamins are all examples of lipids. Lipids are fatty or waxy substances that do not dissolve in water.
Energy storage is the main biological function of lipids. When metabolized, the hydrocarbons in the lipid molecule get oxidized, releasing large amounts of energy.
