What is chemical bonding?

Posted April 15, 2022

Answer

Chemical bonding refers to the formation of a chemical bond between two or more atoms, ions, or molecules. It is the force of attraction that holds together the atoms in a molecule, ion, or crystal rightly enough to form a stable chemical compound. The nature of the chemical bond may vary. It could be ionic, covalent, or metallic. Regardless of the specific type of bond formed, chemical bonds that are strong can often last indefinitely resulting in compounds that are very stable. These chemical bonds can only be broken apart by an external force. The inverse is also true. Weak chemical bonding results in unstable compounds that readily undergo additional reactions to produce more stable chemical compounds with stronger bonds.
