What is included in a LAMP assay?

A LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) assay includes the use of 4 to 6 primers that are capable of recognizing 6 to 8 distinct regions of target DNA. A strand-displacing DNA polymerase is used to initiate synthesis. Subsequent rounds of amplification are facilitated by two specially designed primers that form loop structures.
