The two main materials needed to make a phosphate buffer are: 

  • Sodium Phosphate Dibasic Heptahydrate
  • Sodium Phosphate Monobasic Monohydrate 

Other materials needed are:  

  • Phosphoric acid (to make the pH more acidic) or Sodium hydroxide (to make the pH more alkaline)
  • Distilled Water
  • pH meter
  • Hot plate with stirring bar
  • Glassware
