When should I use a TBE buffer for gel electrophoresis?

Answer

TBE (Tris-borate-EDTA) buffer is a good choice for gel electrophoresis when you require higher resolution of DNA fragments smaller than 2 kb. You’ll get sharper bands when you use TBE for smaller fragments. 

TBE also works better for a longer run because of its higher buffering capacity.
