When do buffers work the best?

Posted December 22, 2023

Answer

A buffer is most efficient when the amounts of acid and conjugate base are relatively equal. An accepted rule in science is that the relative amounts of base and acid should not differ by tenfold. The ratio should be between 10:1 and 1:10. It is important to note that the base pair’s Ka value should be very close to the desired pH
