Mitochondria are the main cellular organelles that are involved in initiation of intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. MOMP (Mitochondria Outer Membrane Permeabilization) initiates the intrinsic apoptosis pathway, triggering the release ofpro-apoptotic proteins from the mitochondrial intermembrane space into the cytoplasm.
