Why is the mRNA not equal in length to the DNA it was transcribed from?

Answer
mRNA is a transcript of a specific region of DNA and not of the whole DNA. The exons or noncoding sequences of DNA are absent in mRNA because the exons of the genes are not transcribed. Thus, an mRNA molecule is typically shorter than the DNA it was transcribed from.
