In some cases, it is possible to use a hormone assay kit on rats or mice. This largely depends on the homology of the target hormones or epitopes between humans and rats/mice. While some hormones are sufficiently similar, others may be too different to be viable for the assay. An assay kit may be already validated for use in another species; if not, it is advisable to validate the assay kit for the intended target species.
