The duration of each cell cycle phase varies considerably in different kinds of cells. Usually, Gap 1 (G1) phase takes the longest time, whereas the mitotic phase is relatively short.
For a typical rapidly proliferating human cell with a total cycle time of 24 hours, the G1 phase might last as long as 11 hours, S phase about 8 hours, G2 about 4 hours and M only about 1 hour.
