How should ethidium bromide be diluted?

Posted December 1, 2021

Answer

To dilute ethidium bromide, add 10 grams of EtBr to 800 ml distilled water in an appropriate container. Add some more distilled water till the volume is 1 liter. This creates a dilution of 10 mg/ml. This solution must then be stirred on a magnetic stirrer for several hours so that the dye is completely dissolved.

Wrap the container completely with ethidium bromide solution in aluminum foil and store at room temperature. Alternately, transfer the solution to a dark bottle before storing at room temperature.
