What are introns?

Posted June 22, 2020

Answer

Introns are non-coding regions of an RNA transcript, or the DNA encoding it, that are removed by RNA splicing during the maturation of RNA. Introns are found in a wide variety of genes of most organisms and many viruses. The size of introns can range from tens of base pairs to thousands of base pairs.
