What is the purpose of DNA fragmentation?

Posted February 17, 2022

Answer

DNA fragmentation subdivides longer DNA strands into smaller fragments prior to sequencing. This is essential as sequencing provides most accurate results when performed on relatively short strands of 100-500 base pairs. DNA fragmentation plays an integral role in forensics, particularly that of DNA profiling.
