When using Cell Navigator® Fluorimetric Lipid Droplet Assay Kit which fluorescent dye should I use?

Answer

We offer both Green Fluorescence (Cat# 22730) and Red Fluorescence (Cat# 22735) in our Cell Navigator® Fluorimetric Lipid Droplet Assay Kits.

Nile Green™ and Droplite™ Red are intensely fluorescent in a lipid-rich environment while having minimal fluorescence in aqueous media. They are excellent vital stains for the detection of intracellular lipid droplets with fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry or fluorescence microplate reader. Unlike Nile Red which has broad range of fluorescence spectrum, Nile Green™ stains intracellular lipid droplets with green fluorescence only. They can be used with other fluorescence dyes for multicolor staining. The green fluorescence signal could be read at Ex/Em=485/520 nm or observed using the filter set of FITC. The red fluorescence signal could be read at Ex/Em=550/640 nm or observed using the filter set of TRITC.

We also offer Nile Blue A (Cat # 60) which can be used to distinguish neutral lipids (stained pink) and fatty acids (stained blue) in histological staining.
