Are all transcribed genes translated into proteins?

Posted February 22, 2023

Answer

No, all transcribed genes are not translated into proteins. Only a very small percentage (about 1%) of DNA consists of protein-coding genes. The larger percentage (about 99%) is noncoding. Noncoding DNA does not provide instructions for protein synthesis.
