Are cytokines used in immunotherapy?

Posted October 23, 2023

Answer

The two most notable cytokines used in cancer immunotherapy are Interleukin-2 (IL-2) and Interferons-alpha (IFN-alpha).

Studies done over the past decade have shown the effectiveness of cytokine-based immunotherapy for stimulating anti-tumor immune responses. There are several different types of immunotherapies used to attack tumor cells. In cytokine-based immunotherapy, large amounts of cytokines are introduced into the body. This influx of cytokines stimulates the immune system to produce more disease-fighting immune cells.
