How does 7-AAD bind to DNA?

Posted May 24, 2022

Answer

7-AAD binds to DNA in a specific and straightforward manner. It binds to DNA through interconnecting between base pairs in G-C regions. When 7-AAD becomes bound to the G-C regions, a banding pattern forms in polytene chromosomes and chromatin. This is used for chromosome banding studies, for things like clinical research.
